Turned into a really good commentator.
He also has a sense of humour, which nobody could have guessed in the 70s.

I watched Heart of the Angel on iPlayer the other day having heard it mentioned on the wireless. It was part of the BBC’s 40 Minute series and covers 48 hours in the life of the Angel tube station in 1989, a few years before it was renovated.

In short, everything, including most of the people we meet, is broken to one extent or another. The station manager prefers to hide away in a dump of an office rather than deal with the endless problems such as the broken lifts, which was a particular problem as it’s a deep station and there were no escalators to use instead of a very long spiral staircase. At first, a couple of the characters, such as the chap in the ticket office and the ticket inspector, seem quite chirpy but you later realise that they really aren’t.

It’s interesting, if slightly grim.

Putting it in context, it was not that long after the tragedy caused by the escalator fire at nearby Kings Cross in November 1987. The ramifications of which resulted in major safety improvements and updating throughout the tube network.

23rd June 1986.

A late nighter on BBC1 Barry Mcguigan defending his World Featherweight Title against Steve Cruz in Vegas.

Texan Steve Cruz was a replacement for Argentinian Fernando Soso who was injured training for the bout.
Unfancied Cruz won on points over 15 rounds.
Mcguigan was exhausted at the end & must have wondered about agreeing to holding the fight outside in the evening in the desert heat.

Mcguigan famously won his title in the cooler surroundings of Loftus Rd the year before.

Borg v McEnroe(2017) is a great film about that era.

23rd June 1979.

World Cup Cricket Final,England v West Indies.
60 over competition in those days.
England were a bit short in the bowling department,Geoff Boycott turned his arm for a few overs iirc.
Juke Box Jury was back on the BBC after a 12 year hiatus.
This was the episode that included John Lydon(Presenter Noel Edmonds introduced him
by his Sex Pistols name of Johnny Rotten) along with Joan Collins & Alan ‘fluff’ Freeman.
It was as entertaining as it was surprising that Lydon had been invited onto it.
Juke Box Jury lasted the one season in this run.
It briefly made a reappearance in 1988/89.
