Mansfield sign striker Ollie Hawkins from Ipswich on a two year contract
That's a good signing if they can keep him fit and utilise him correctly. Oli isn't really a goalscorer but he's selfless and, in the right set-up, will do a lot of work for others around him. He's also very tall and decent in his own box defending set-pieces to the extent that we experimented for a time with him as a centre-half.

Under the Radfords, Mansfield typically appear to recruit well in the summer before underwhelming massively - but have a sneaking suspicion they'll become very competitive next season with Clough Jr. at the helm.

One year it will click for Mansfield. Been fun watching them splash out and massively underachieve though.

Think he may have came on as a sub when we played you at Fratton a few seasons ago.

He certainly played in the Premier Cup game at SJP last year just before the area final of the Papa Smurf Trophy (or whatever) at Fratton Park. He was certainly a physical handful against Hartridge and Dyer but went off injured after about half an hour. City went on to win against a fairly strong looking Pompey lineup.

It will be interesting to see if L2 is more to his liking goals wise and whether he can keep fit.

Thought afterwards it may have been Bird I was thinking of, big lanky type.

Torquay’s goal scoring keeper joins Port Vale.

This is for those people thinking we can only talk to players when their contracts expire in July… PV probably enquired weeks ago while he was still actively playing.
