In RaWZ we trust....Amen.
Jackal(1997)

A good adaptation of the 1973 film The Day of the Jackal with a North American slant.

One of the better films that Bruce Willis has been in.He was involved in some pretty mediocre productions in the 90s.The awful Die Hard sequels spring to mind.

7/10

To Olivia, Sky Cinema. Story of Roald Dahl and his wife Patricia Neal at the time when their daughter died from encephalitis after developing measles. The flim showed how they dealt or not with this devastating loss and how their relatioship suffered. Not much happens but beautifully acted by Hugh Bonneville & Keeley Hawes and the stunning flim photography is lovely. References to his books in it plus not sure if this is poetic licence but when in his writing shed his dead brother? appears who Dahl talks to.

A good film that deals with a very sad subject, The loss of a child and worth a watch. 7/10.

49th Parallel (1941). Expected better from a Michael Powell film, but the acting was truly awful with wooden actors and stilted dialogue. The only interesting thing was the German U-boat crew encourtering the Hutterites in Canada for whom I'd never heard of before (a kind of Lutheran group). Plotline - A World War II U-boat crew are stranded in northern Canada. To avoid internment, they must make their way to the border and get into the still-neutral U.S. 2/10.

The Dawn Wall.

A documentary about two climbers who try to become the first to free climb the Dawn Wall bit of El Capitan. You’ll know the drill if you’ve Free Solo but I thought this was better as, to me, the bloke in Free Solo came across as a bit of **** whereas the two climbers in this seem like decent chaps.

6/10.

The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan 2.

I know that the title should’ve been enough to put me off but it’s lockdown and the rules don’t apply.

A villain turned super grass is living out his life in Spain under witness protection when he’s randomly spotted by a couple of heavies from back home. They go after him as he stole money from their boss (an evil Russian billionaire) but as he can’t pay up they kidnap his girlfriend and give him four days to pay or she gets it. Various things happen and then it ends.

I was expecting this to be utter tripe but it was actually just about watchable. That is until the ending when it descends, very quickly and without warning, into the utter tripe expected.

Seems that Nick Nevern, who plays the lead character, was born in Exeter. Who knew?

2.5/10.

The Lady Vanishes (1938). Didn't spot Hitchcock in this one. Some great characters from British films, and it features yet again Caldicott and Charters. A well told story making much of intrigue in the storyline, including people confirming that they hadn't seen the lady . 7/10.
