Clyde have terminated their lease with North Lanarkshire Council & will be leaving Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld after the next home game on Saturday. They have arranged a ground share with Hamilton Accies in the short term. They plan to get back to Glasgow which they left in 1986, having a nomadic existence until they moved to the new Broadwood Stadium in 1994. The ‘new town’ of Cumbernauld getting a SFL team, though one that kept its original name.
Clyde’s original ground was Shawfield. They left in 1986 . It was/is owned by a Greyhound Racing Company, a similar scenario to Bristol Rovers at Eastville, who also had to find a new ground in 1986.
I was driving on the M73 towards the M8 recently, I spotted a set of pylon floodlights from the elevated section of the motorway, I knew it was not one of the Glasgow big two & it was the wrong side of the river for Partick Thistle, upon investigation on google maps(when stopped !) I was surprised to see that it was Shawfield.
A couple of the old stands are still there.
