Ooops, stats don't appear from the Soccerbase website. Results now copied over...

Only 2 games lost when Sam starts compared to 5 when he doesn't in broadly the same number of games. But the really dramatic stats are those including sub appearances, showing that his impact off the bench is significant (which is really useful as presumably that's how he will be used in this fortnight of 5 games in 15 days).

The stats are ( results in W-D-L format followed by %)

- for starts 7-9-2 versus 6-6-5 when he doesn't start. % are 39-50-11 as against 35-35-29.

- all games inc sub appearances its 10-10-2 versus 3-3-5 when he doesn't play at all. % are 45-45-9 compared to 23-38-38

So the stats tell us the blindingly obvious that we are a better team when Nombe plays!
The biggest reason we struggled without Nombe is that we didn't have anyone similar in the squad. Ever since becoming manager, Matt Taylor has always built his sides around a big, strong centre forward and neither Amond, Brown or Seymour were able to provide that physical presence.

Thought that would be the case. Need him to stay injury free.

Your right, but it wasn't just the pass, it was also they way he used his strength to hold off the defender who was all over him.
And it was Sam doing that again tonight that led to the decisive free kick.

I still don't think we've seen anywhere near the best of him. He has such a great all-round game his potential is through the roof.

Incredible to look at the last two games and the influence Sam has had coming off the bench. Both games we had failed to look like we would score both games end up with us getting two wins!!!! He is the all round striker

I agree. You can see why he was playing championship level last year. He certainly has the quality to play there again.

From what we have seen so far it seems as though he has come through what could be a very nasty and potentially career threatening injury very well. Let's take it easy on him for a while.

Since the conference days we've had some brick sh1thouses up front, some good, some less so, but all very physical presences.

Not one of them has worked a defence like Sam Nombe. The strength, the physicality... every challenge, absolutely every challenge, is a battle. Then you factor in his running, moving into channels... we haven't even talked about ability yet...

As much as I agree did you never watch Danny Nardiello or Jamie Cureton? Probably the best two players Exeter have ever signed on free transfers
