I think we can safely say that The Taliban have gone back to like, After telling Barbers not to shave men's beards and executing some alledged kidnappers and hanging their bodies in Herat its not the new "Taliban Lite" they promised, The people of Afghanistan don't deserve this at all, Whether they go back to a haven for terror groups we'll see but other than that the world will ignore what's happening.

A load of nutters living five hundred years in the past.( Apart from their mobile phones which for some reason seem to fit in o.k with their warped beliefs conveniently . ) Yes , the world will forget about the poor beggars left there to rot there unless the usual suspects start blowing up parts of the U.S of A and points east . Then we’ll all wake up again to slug it out in round two. Still we were burning witches at the stake only a couple of hundred years ago so there’s time yet for them to change.

Expect soon Governments from all over the world including us, The US and the EU to soften their stance over The Taliban, Why? Because Afghanistan has one of the largest deposits of Lithium in the world and if we are hoping to go fully electric with cars etc we will need it, No surprise that China were already willing to welcome The Taliban.

Let's face it, The Taliban was only kicked out because they were thought to be sheltering OBL and AQ training camps and then mission creep started when they couldn't find OBL. We trade and sell arms to all manner of serious dodgy countries if there is a profit in it.

The US is now offering compensation to the families of the 10 innocent victims of the drone strike a couple months back, Also offering survivors a chance to relocate to the US.

The Taliban are celebrating one year since they retook the country, A sad an embarrasing time for the West and probably gave Putin the idea of invading Ukraine thinking NATO was weak and divided, Also a horrible time for women and girls in Afghanistan with all their rights taken away. Not the West's finest moment.

Are the ANP not trained enough or have a big enough budget to fight the Taliban? We spent over a decade training and supplying weapons as well as suppressing the Taliban to a point where the ANP should of had this under control.

You did see how the Afghan Army melted away at record speed when the Taliban were advancing? There was corruption within that army with officers and senior politicians, We could only train them so much and for the last couple of years it was the Afghan's themselves who were doing the actual fighting and probably in the end the will wasn't there to fight, As for weapons the Taliban said "Thank you very much"

There's a good 2 part doc on the Beeb about Afghanistan and the retreat.

It's been interesting hearing that Biden was always against action there. He resisted putting more troops there under Obama's presidency. And I think Biden and Trump were largely correct to remove all troops there. One could argue the way Biden did it was ham fisted...well I'm not Sleepy's biggest fan as you know, but how else could it have been done?
