In RaWZ we trust....Amen.
Really got me thinking about what the first record was that I bought in the Left Bank....Good topic, Olds..
I can remember buying the Scotland World Cup song for 1974 there 😁

It was a great record/music shop..Loved Pitts in the High St too.
I think the first major record store was when HMV had a shop in the new Guildhall development in late 1976.
Woolworths also had a record department

The Left Bank was the "in" place to go, and they'd always give you loads of time in the cubicles to listen to albums. I have a feeling the first track I listened to there was "Yours is no disgrace", but it could have been before that

Comfortably mid-table
My journey from pop to prog was facilitated by the first of many regular trips to the Left Bank after the loss of the Walton department store singles bargain basket.

There was another "indy-type" record store in the Guildhall for a while - in the arcade bit leading in from Queen St - the name of which escapes me.
MVC on the junction of Paris & Sidwell Streets was always well stocked with Tapes & CDs too..plus a range of VHS tapes (and, later, those new-fangled DVDs)
And that tiny place in the (now demolished) Fore St arcade which even until recently had some great 70s rock vinyl on display.
All, sadly, long gone now sacrificed to the twin "gods" of iTunes and Amazon*. There was always something more magic and tactile thumbing through the stacks of sleeves or cases and, occasionally, happening upon some hithertoo unknown gem simply because of the sleeve art and/or notes. .
(*Thankfully there is still Rooster Records in Fore Street when (lockdown permitted) one can find even long-lost 70 & 80s rarities amongst its piles of CDs (y))

Was it Tribal Records ?? They had a board advert on the corner of the away end by the Cowshed iirc.

Another one that specialised in 2nd hand vinyl & tapes was a shop in North St half way up.That was around from the late 70s to the early 00’s
Can’t remember the name.

I thought the Guildhall one was called "Red" something. But i could well be wrong.
Afraid I have no recollection of the North Street on that you mention though. The was a stall in the old St Georges Market that did 2nd hand music stuff.
I believe there still is a stall in Exmouth Market - or at least was pre-lockdown. Lots of railway and military DVDs too.

Spent hours looking through the records in the Market

Solo, perhaps? It was the last shop on the left if you were walking into the Guildhall.

That's the fellow! (y) Thanks for that - I wouldn't have slept a wink tonight worrying about that name.
