17th January 1987.
Only 8 games survived the freezing conditions.
At SJP the pitch was covered with straw to keep out Jack Frost. The Icy Big Bank was off limits to spectators.

Not quite, I was in the top corner where there used to be an entrance from Old Tiverton Road. Most of the Big Bank was taken up by straw and cleared snow.

I remember on the Monday due to the lack of football the previous Saturday there was a fairly large article about the game & the effort to get it played in the Daily Express sports pages. The wonder kid,17 year old Mark Robson was being checked out.
Robson scored iirc.
In those days no one gave a to55 about how icy the pavements were outside the ground.

Yes, I was in the Cowshed but remember the Colchester corner taker getting bombarded with snowballs down in that corner...I think there was one attempt when he came under such fire and was unable to take the corner.

In contrast, 83-4 and flatlining after the dizzy heights of 19th - Hoping moderators can fix the fact that pictures are upside down as I can't on my phone !
