The Athletic say they have ‘expressed an interest’. No note of anything more than that mind. Disagree with those who say Celtic would be a bad move for him though. Their players are often held in high regard compared to other in the SPL in my opinion, and are often linked to bigger clubs. Add to that the idea of performing in front of 50,000 each home game and the potential to play in Europe. He’d be mad to say no.

Grimes was on £500 a week for us and went to Swansea for £10k a week.

I bet Randall is on something like £750 a week for us so he'll take this move purely on financial grounds regardless of any other considerations.

Does anyone on here seriously think that if Celtic offer him (say) a 3 year deal on £5000 a week he will say no?

Swansea Live transfer update for Swansea today has no mention of Joel Randall, despite many possible transfers being touted. Swansea manager says that they don't really have scope to bring in new players.

If, big if, Swans think Joel Randall could be the difference between getting promotion to the Prem and untold riches, they will find the money. Managers all say this shit to dampen the transfer speculation.

But if Swansea or any other English league club offered him the same, he might want it.

If Carlsberg did football clubs...
I think we are all in agreement with the standard of English football compared to Scotland.

Having said that, if Celtic need a midfielder to go straight in the mix (which they do)...that's the move for him.

Exactly. And though the article says City want 1.5m+ there is no indication that anyone wants to pay that sort of money.

My guess is that this will pan out like the first transfer window after Ollie Watkins emerged as a force - some interest in him, at most a bid, but not one that City will accept.

Obviously Celtic are a massive club and it would be a great move for him, but the thing is it leaves very little room for improvement. Due to the standard of the Scottish League, top teams in England would be unwilling to take a risk on him, even if he does do well, whereas it would be much easier to get a move to a premier league team (maybe even a top 6 team) if he was already doing well in the championship.

Surely getting some experience in the Champions League or Europe would be great if he went to Celtic. Do well in these competitions then it may open up a lot of doors not just in the UK.

Not really. Celtic seldom get far enough to play the big teams..Who pays attention to Celtic v Luxemburg Utd? As soon as they play a decent team they're out.
