Pretty brutal first stage today although of course it was the scheduled fourth stage. Ineos exploded the peloton on the final climb but couldn't quite isolate Primoz Roglic and when Sepp Kuss went it was down to a select few but with only Jumbo-Visma with multiple riders.

Roglic looking like he wants to put the end of the Tour behind him and carry his good classics form on today. Carapaz looked strong throughout and is definitely the Ineos leader although Froome said as much before the race. Good ride by Hugh Carthy on what was a terrible day otherwise for EF.

Only four designated flat stages in the eighteen this year. Could get messy but surely Roglic will see this one through.

Froome finding it a struggle already.

Marc Soler took stage 2 for Movistar on home soil...while Chris Froome is now 28 minutes behind Roglic and already reduced to a supporting role for Carapaz...Dan Martin fancying his chances for this one some believe.

Movistar certainly got themselves together today and look like they can challenge Jumbo-Visma. They looked much stronger today which may be good news for Enrique Mas if he has good legs. Dan Martin is used to being a bit of a lone ranger and Carapaz might have to as well with Ineos not looking strong. That might be costly because Carapaz looks in good form.

The Vuelta was on +1 last night - Thought the ITV production looked a bit low budget compared to the Giro on Quest.

Might be less on production but the presentation is better IMO. They actually tell the story of the stage where Quest/Eurosport tend to cut without any explanation of what happened. Quite often you are left wondering where a breakaway or chase group went and having to work it out from the graphics.

That's beside preferring Gary Imlach, Ned Boulting and David Millar which is a personal preference.

Literally only caught the last two minutes of the stage on ITV4 +1 - It sounded like David Millar has serious concerns about the race going much further, seems like things are fast moving in Spain at the moment 🙁

Perfectly timed finished by Dan Martin to take the win. It does seem like the race is almost going day by day. No climb up the Tourmalet with France now not letting the Vuelta or the Giro across the border. Other local lockdowns causing uncertainty as well.
