How did the race for the leadership of the worlds most powerful country come to this...Both seem totally unsuitable candidates 🤪🤪

Leaders of the free world! Satirists these days don't even have to make up the script, their own words are enough.

I think that if you look at the Democratic Party as a whole then amongst them are highly capable capable people with a message of hope. Trump is a would be tin pot dictator. I do not know how you can suggest that the two are similar.
The situation in the UK is dire and there is little hope for the future. In the USA there is. Perhaps your UK cycnicisn and helplessness colours your perspective?

And yet they chose Biden as their candidate??? (I'm not turning this into the politics thread, honestly, Just answering this from last night's debate)

On the subject of Satire it’s a shame that the new series of Spitting Image is only available on subscription(Brit Box)

I can still remember the hilarity when the original series was broadcasted in 1984...Maggie,Ronnie,the Queen & the rest..Brilliant 😁😁

I'd imagine it'll become available for all once the first few series have been shown. Personally will it have the same impact as it did back in the 80's? I'm not so sure.

I doubt it will have the same impact as the original series, that was groundbreaking.

Politicians were not ridiculed that much on TV until that programme. They were fair game for all & sundry since then.

Peter Cook, founding the Establishment Club in 1961, said it was to be a satirical venue modelled on “those wonderful Berlin cabarets which did so much to stop the rise of Hitler and prevent the outbreak of the Second World War”.

Perhaps some people just like killing others. We will never know of course
Watched episode 2 on iPlayer last night.

Apparently Shipman had had a run in with the authorities back in the 70's at a previous practice 20 miles from Hyde. He used to falsify prescriptions of Pethidine for his elderly patients, which he then used to collect but keep for his own use (intravenously). He was basically a junkie. The arresting officer saw the horrific track marks on his arms. So bad were they, he had to start injecting through his penis.

Anyway, he was tried, found guilty but let off with a suspended sentence. Next up was the GMC who reviewed his case. Unbelievably they brushed it under the carpet; he wasn't disbarred and only had to attend a detox program. He was sacked from his practice however but because he wasn't disbarred he could apply for other jobs and with there being a shortage of GPs around that time, he got another GP role pretty easily. Destination Hyde. The rest is history.

You really do have to wonder what went on in the seventies?!
