Question for virologists on here.

We know these diseases are capable of mutating to preserve their existence.

What if a vaccine is found but Mr Covid-19 mutates into something more deadly to preserve its miserable existence ? Is there a hidden danger in a vaccine ?

It's just one article among many, but it might decrease your level of glumminess.

No, I suggested we learn from the Taiwanese not look for a unicorn.
So what exactly can they teach us please ? Is there a linky thing ?

Eerily similar to Spanish flu, circa 1918 (albeit deaths):

They didn't really do lockdowns or masks back then, so you wonder how effective those measures actually are.

Pleasing to see lower positive tests in the last couple of days.
That can’t be down to the measures that have been just introduced. ?

Knocks the graph we were all shown last week at the briefing out a little.
Haven't seen any geographic breakdowns but local lockdowns have been in place for longer in some places. Maybe they are taking effect?

You really ought to learn how to use search engines, Al :)

Here’s a paper highlighting their border controls.

If not useful now with any possible second wave, sure to be handy to know for any future pandemic. Assuming governmental willingness to learn lessons is there.

Thanks Elgy. I will study this treatise. Why not ask a wise man for help rather than faffing around ? Besides all research time currently dedicated to quiz questions. With only 2 in place so far the noose is tightening.

My brain has not really worked very well since the terror of the Baedeker raids question set by a particularly evil quizmater a few years back. :)

Trying to put a bit of "Better" news on the rise in infections and deaths, This bit, taken from the BBCNews website:

"While the number of new infections and deaths will cause alarm – both are up on previous days – the data on hospital admissions is more encouraging.
For the fourth day in a row, the numbers have come down in England.
On Sunday there were 241 admissions, down from 314 on Wednesday.
To put that in context, at the peak England was seeing 3,000 admissions a day."

I would like to hear from other scientists as well as from this pair of Gloomsters. I don't really want to hear from Boris at all.

Monday figures often a bit unreliable ?

I'd like to hear from someone with a plan rather than someone thrashing around, lurching from one set of incoherent 'rules" to another on a seemingly daily basis, whilst simultaneously pushing laws through in the dead of night with no scrutiny and then not even knowing what the laws say.

It will all be leaked to the papers overnight anyway so no need to watch.

Ex boss of Sainsbury's been appointed to sort out mass T&T. You'd think some knowledge of the public health system would be important in this but there you go.
