No, there's loyalty and in the end, if he's good enough, he will get his move and earn his money. The aim of helping the club that helped him and looking after himself are not mutually exclusive...
Sadly not the way of the world, these days.

And if he's not good enough he'll have missed out on 3-5yrs of higher wages before he finds his level.

Perhaps the academy should manipulate the kids' progress so they become late developers ;)

When this came up a couple of years ago, Manc's classic comment was something like "So are you saying we shouldn't produce such good young players then!"

It does make you wonder why bother to cultivate the youngsters if the Prem League cowboys can just come and rustle the crop for a handful of cattle feed.

Why not just emulate the Mansfield's/Forest Gumps/Salford's etc and just use the cash thus released to mop up the failed ex-Prem left-overs who weren't able to make their dreamy dreams come true?

Because then the likes of Ollie, Grimes, Storey, Pym, JMT, Sercs, Bennett, Nichols, Moxey, Archie, Sparkes, about half of our current squad wouldn't have a career? Even those who have gone before they sign pro terms have earned us money even if it is not as much as we would like. Something Taggy will continue to campaign to change. We can still pick up those rejected players as well.

Randall Williams is proof you can pick up good ex Prem. League players, improve them and then sale on.

Will Villa remember "little old us" when it comes to recommending our Club to players they may release at a future date ?? Not a hope in hell !

Perhaps you should consider who their manager it. He probably has a high opinion of "little old us" given that he signed Ollie for Brentford, and now it would seem has come back for Chrisene ?

People often say "Ooh they mentioned that Ollie/Ethan/Matt/Jordan/etc came from the Exeter academy, that's good publicity isn't it?" No, it's not, it's shit, it just means any half brained ******** scout can come down and take a well trained player for f**** all! I'd rather they give the credit for developing Watkins to Plymouth to be honest, praise doesn't pay any bills. This system sucks.

It's the other way of looking at it, which may work at least as well, particularly if we keep getting 'striped' by the system that we voted for.
“We” didn’t vote for it of course. Tagg was and is, dead against it and wants reform.
