Ownership of St James Park

I've always been under the impression that St James Park was owned by the club, and so we weren't in the precarious situation of not owning where we play which has led so many clubs into difficulty.

I was though reading the Forest Green (H) programme from last season, when the Stansfield Stand was opened, and it says that the stand and the land its built on is owned by Exeter City Council.

Can anyone enlighten me on what we own/don't own?

Back in the days when we went into administration 2003/4 the fact that the Council owned the land allowed City to continue. If it was owned by an individual he could have sold it and our home would have been gone forever. I suppose we could have ground-shared with the Chiefs, but.........................

You will note that Tagg is a Co. owner of OTR, as well as being City Club Chairman. Some might suggest a conflict of interest there.

Not really. The company is merely a shell company that was created to leverage commercial finance to purchase the building. It makes no profit and only exists to service payments on the loan. No decisions can be taken by the board without unanimous agreement. Hard to see how that could in any way be considered a conflict of interest.
