Good point about the lube. Very true.

Many business owners I've spoken to have asked their staff to be furloughed and they've all said yes as they want their company to survive and keep their jobs. You can't just furlough people though or you're breaking employment law. You must email the staff a temporary adjustment to their contract and they have to write back saying they agree. Which is why this notion of ECFC being different somehow to every other type of business is completely wrong. All furloughing is voluntary. If the player agrees to it, the PFA can do nothing to stop it. Hence why Forest Green, Argyle etc have gone ahead and done it. They've made the case to their players that if they don't furlough them then the risk is the club goes bust at a later date. The players, being logical human beings, have agreed. All that is missing from City is the will to do it. And it is costing the club a fortune by not doing it.
What was the average salary of the employees in the businesses you know that have furloughed people so easily?

You would like to think everyone knows the detail, but just in case. You have to inform employees that they are being furloughed, if they choose not to be, then in theory, you can tell them that their job no longer exists. Furloughing is available to incentivise employers not to shed staff during this crisis. The Government, under these conditions, will contribute 80% of the employees salary up to 80% or a maximum of 2500 pounds. Clearly if you are earning 30,000 then you will get most of your salary. However, if you are on say 75000, then the difference will be substantial and the more you earn the bigger the gap.

Not sure it is fair to expect the man on the Clapham Omnibus (if he is allowed on it at present) to understand the fine detail of the furlough scheme Malcs. To complete the picture is there anything to stop the employer topping up the remuneration of the employee while receiving the £2,500 from HMG ? In which case isn't it a no brainer ?

Just seen the suggestion that clubs might be able to bring players for training but keep them furloughed. But presumably this wouldn't apply if you're playing play off games.

They were supposedly advised to not have Scott interviewing the current players (after the ones he did) just in case of any conflict with the furlough scheme although we can get opposition players like Ollie and George!

In RaWZ we trust....Amen.
Another help, though it’s only deferred until next April is VAT returns(tickets & merchandise) suspended.

Another cost to plan in for next season with the expected reduced attendance allowed.

*MU deferred their VAT payment-£10m & used the money to buy shares to prop up the share price & hence increase the dividend payable back to the club !!
Nothing illegal in that, but this country is being taken for mugs.

This is the problem with simply throwing money or tax deferrals at a problem. It gets abused.

That said, these various government help schemes were of necessity put together in haste so I would not want to be too critical.
