M1 is CLOSED all weekend Junctions 23A to 24 East Midlands Airport and although there is a short diversion via the A453 there will be delays.

Definitely worth avoiding ... although google maps has the quickest route to Lincoln from SW going further south of here on M1 for J21-J21a @ Liecester. ... make plans, arrive in plenty of time etc etc.

One final one for your forum (and you couldn't make this up-someone is conspiring to make your journey as difficult as possible).
Not only is the M1 shut but Saturday sees the most congested weekend all year around Newark due to the Nottinghamshire County show- the showground is off the last roundabout on the A46 at Newark and 150 yards from the A1/A46 roundabout (the A1 being doubly busy because the M1 is shut).
Unless you take a big detour from Leicester via Grantham, you can't really avoid Newark when going to Lincoln.

I hope this information can be widely shared. Could screw the day up for some. We know what the Devon County Show does to local roads. Trust there is not an IKEA in Newark as well! I thought the train journey was tortuous, sounds like a good deal now. Thanks to Impsfan for heads up. Hope your lot have easier journeys (but not result) next week.
