Took me ages to realise that 'rest bite' was in fact 'respite'

You go me on the alarm clock
Never being able to remember which side the car's filler cap was on, it was only last year that my son pointed out the little arrow on everyone's fuel gauge that tells you.
No shame there, I didn't know about that until I read this post :$

According to traffic reports on the radio there is a place called Sinister Island on the motorway network that continually has traffic jams. Best avoid.

Doesn't help that I'm continually looking at my fuel gauge trying to work out whether the little indicator of which side the cap is on is just coincidence.

A couple of geographical ones:

I thought Majorca and Mallorca were two different places for a long time.

First heard the term 'Benelux' referring to the Low Countries sometime in the early 90s. At some point around 2015 I realised the name was a portmanteau of BElgium-NEtherlands-LUXembourg.

Comfortably mid-table
At primary school I used to think it was "here we go round the Mowbray bush" because of Mowbray House maternity hospital in Heavitree. Also, back then - Cellar Tape.
