Unfortunately, the massive hike in transfer fees in the last few years means that Prem clubs can just hoover up as many youngsters as they want knowing that even if they never play for the first team then someone like Bournemouth will still shell out for them so they'll more than make their money back.

I was pleased when Chris Willock told Arsenal to do one and went to Benfica instead off signing another contract with them to play in their reserves and I hope more youngsters at Prem clubs do the same.

At least this will raise the profile of our academy even higher and should help us compete to attract more talented youngsters.

It is my understanding that a substantial fee is being negotiated. Millions of pounds will be exchanged - the club will certainly profit substantially.

Well Tis made that point in the article, and luckily enough because most 'papers just copy and paste articles nowadays, it's repeated in practically every follow-up article. Certainly helps us getting the news out first rather than Chelsea.

OK Dave. Seems everyone on here is really concerned about the money we might lose. Seeing as he was never our player, just sit back and see what unfolds. Anything is a bonus, and some of his performances early doors last season when we were struggling were already a gift.

Seriously I heard that, too. But why would Chelsea pay what they don't have to pay.

An English player sucked into the Chelsea system = waste of time.

Sorry to be pedantic, but I think you'll find he's Welsh in a football sense... If he's good enough he will find a career there, if not, he'll end up somewhere in the FL system

Who knows? Maybe a condition of him signing was that the compo had to start at a certain level or he would go elsewhere?

Could be. ...If correct, it should help put the price up for Ollie Watkins, too. The buyer will know we're not desperate for the money
