City’s fourth straight league win extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 18, while Matt Jay’s goal sent him on his own at the top of the League Two scoring charts. Once again the FA Cup draw hasn’t been kind, with the winners of Tuesday night’s fixture having to travel to either Northampton or Cambridge where a home tie against Dog & Duck 3rd XI would have been preferable. Matt Taylor kept his squad fresh by making a number of changes last Wednesday in the 5-3 EFL Trophy win over Bristol Rovers before reverting to a more usual side against Oldham, although he welcomes back Tim Dieng on Tuesday night after he served a suspension. Kyle Taylor also missed out on Saturday, while Sam Stubbs will be closer to contention having come through his first action against Bristol Rovers.

Bradford appear to have taken over from City as the division’s draw specialists, having now drawn six of their last eight in all competitions – since the 1-1 draw at Valley Parade in the original tie the Bantams have had a “winning draw” at Sunderland in the EFL Trophy and a creditable 1-1 draw at Port Vale on Saturday. Manager Derek Adams, never one to shy away from controversy where City are concerned, was rather inflammatory in his pre-match comments ahead of the original match, claiming that City are more interested in playing youngsters than gaining promotion – City will hope to make Adams eat those words Alan Hansen-style this season. Lee Angol was Bradford’s scorer at Vale Park and the striker now has three goals in three starts in the league, while Andy Cook leads the way with seven.

The first match of course finished 1-1, City perhaps fortunate to escape with a draw having been outplayed for much of the tie, Theo Robinson scoring in the first half for Bradford before Sam Nombe’s late equaliser set up a grandstand finish.
