Cranbrook Station Finally Opens

cranbrookThe railway station at Cranbrook has finally opened. It’s completion is over 18 months late, but it provides a new train route in to Exeter from the new town located a few miles to the east of Exeter. However, there is no stop for Exeter fans at the moment at the conveniently located St James Park station.

The station is served by the hourly Exeter St Davids to/fro London Waterloo operated by South West Trains. The 14.12 from Cranbrook on a Saturday will get in to Central station at 14.25, with the return service leaving Exeter Central at 17.30 getting back to Cranbrook at 17.39, all for a return fare (currently) of £3.50. Tuesday night’s are little more difficult involving a sprint for the 21.30 or a leisurely return catching the 23.01.cranbrook_feat

This station opening follows the new station at Newcourt (near Old Rydon Lane), which serves St James Park directly, and is between Topsham and Digby and Sowton station.

As for the future, a new station in Marsh Barton is being planned, but is on an unknown delay. The transport planing authorities are also looking at introducing a local service calling at all stations between Exeter St Davids and Axminster. The service would run hourly in between the Waterloo service, but may require a passing loop at Feniton.
