Alex Byrne and Jason Pope to Join Weston-Super-Mare on Loan

Young Exeter City midfield pairing Alex Byrne and Jason Pope will be joining Weston-super-Mare on six-month youth loans. The two youngsters will still be available for the remaining Exeter friendlies, and will be part of the Seagulls National League South campaign, which jason_popestarts away to Concord Rangers on Saturday 8th August.

Weston-Super-Mare took Matt Jay, Jordan Tillson and Ollie Watkins on loan at various stages last season. The loan period being particularly successful for Ollie.

Jason Pope starts his second year as a professional with Exeter City. He played against Weston in the recent 2-1 friendly win for the Grecians at Woodspring Stadium.

Alex Byrne, who signed his first professional contract this summer, has for the second season running been involved with the Exeter first-team squad during pre-season, and played in Scotland against East Fife and Arbroath.alex_byrne

Weston-Super-Mare boss, Ryan Northmore said on the loans:-

Alex and Jason are both hungry to play here after talking to the loanees we brought here from Exeter last season.

Both players add more quality to the squad and that brings competition for places with it. Things are shaping up nicely and it’s of huge benefit that both players can be part of our preseason preparations so they can bed in before 8th August.
