Exeter City’s midfielder Ryan Harley hit a brace at Brunton Park on Saturday as the Grecians overcame Carlisle United 3-1.

It’s not the first time he’s hit a brace at Brunton Park, he did so in February 2011 in a 2-2 draw.harley_celebrates

It’s earned him a place in the Football League’s Team of the Week, see here for more details. More important for Exeter fans, it’s marked a return to the Ryan Harley of old. One that has confidence to strike from distance, to find space out of no where, and play the killer pass.

His first half goal was at the end that the travelling faithful were situated and he took great delight in celebrating that goal in front of them.

Speaking on the Club’s official site after Saturday’s game Harley had this to say:-

I’ve scored a couple on the last two times that I’ve played here – and I enjoy it because it’s a nice big pitch. We always seem to do well here – maybe it suits our style a bit more.

A goal’s a goal – I enjoy scoring goals for the club. I enjoy every one, no matter whether it’s a tap-in or a decent finish.

I think I’ve been doing okay, but I’ve not been so much of a threat to the opposing goal. I’ve done okay but haven’t been having three or four shots a game and looking like I’m going to score.

This is my first run of games in a couple of years where I’ve been featuring consistently, so it takes time. I’m feeling stronger and hopefully a few more goals will come. With a bit more fitness I can only play better and help the team.

City fans will now be hoping that he can continue this form at home to Wimbledon on Saturday.
