Next Up: Cambridge United v Exeter City

It may have been an encouraging display and a point enough to lift City off the bottom, but the Grecians face a midweek trip to returning foes still in search of their first win of the season. Pat Baldwin missed the Oxford match with a knee injury, but with Christian Ribeiro and Jordan Moore-Taylor now fit his absence wasn’t noticeable, while Graham Cummins will have been delighted to open his account for the season even if it was from the spot. It may be therefore Cambridge v Exeter Play off final wembleythat Paul Tisdale won’t tinker too much with the side, although returning loanee David Noble may feature, possibly at the expense of Matt Oakley should Tisdale decide three games in a week is too much for the veteran.

After several near misses, Cambridge finally returned to the Football League this season having defeated Gateshead in the Wembley showpiece. Richard Money’s side has continued its momentum, and they find themselves in sixth place going into Tuesday’s match following a thrilling 3-2 victory away to Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday. Their last home match was a 5-0 demolition of the side now beneath City in the table, Carlisle, which saw the visitors dispense with the services of their manager. The goals, and there have been quite a few of them, have been shared around with four players each on two goals, North_terraceincluding Jayden Stockley and Tom Elliott. One player unlikely to feature is former Manchester United player Luke Chadwick, who realised his boyhood dream of signing for his local side during the latter part of last season. Chadwick was injured shortly after coming on as a sub at Newport just over a week ago.

Any City supporter worth their salt will remember the last time the sides met – May 18th 2008 – when Rob Edwards’ header at Wembley clinched City’s return to the Football League. Paul Tisdale has yet to taste defeat against Cambridge, Danny Seaborne scoring the only goal the last time City made the trip to the Abbey Stadium. Overall, however, Cambridge hold a big lead in league head to heads with 21 wins to City’s 13 (10 draws).
