Next Up: Bournemouth at home in the League Cup
Tonight (Tuesday 12th August) is the first round of the Capital One Cup for the 2014/15 season. Championship side Bournemouth will be visiting St James Park and there is a 7.45pm kick off.
Bournemouth got off to a flyer in their opener of the season, winning 4-0 against Huddersfield at the Galpharm. Goals coming from Marc Pugh, Callum Wilson 2, and Yann Kermorgant, and cost the Huddersfield boss, Mark Robins, his job.
By contrast Exeter City, having been hit by a virus, had manager Paul Tisdale named on the bench, and a number of under the weather players on the pitch, earned a credible 1-1 draw with promotion favourites Portsmouth.
Exeter City should have a more healthy team available for this evening, but Jordan Moore-Taylor will be out for a few more weeks, and Christian Ribeiro and Graham Cummins still unable to be signed due to the transfer embargo. Bournemouth are likely to rest a few of their first team players in anticipation of the visit of newly promoted Brentford to the Fitness First Stadium.
Neither team have had much success in this competition, though Bournemouth did get to the dizzying height of the 3rd round in 2004 before losing to Cardiff City on penalties. Exeter’s successes came in 2011 (over Yeovil Town) and in 1993 winning 2-1 on aggregate over 2 legs against Walsall.

David Wheeler speaking ahead of tonight’s game:-
We were underdogs against Portsmouth on Saturday, albeit on a smaller scale, and arguably we could have won the game.
It is slightly different this time in that Bournemouth are certainly expected to win, but we gave QPR a good game last year at this stage and their first goal was very fortunate. It might come down to a couple of things early on. As long as we can stay in the game, the more agitated they are likely to get to win the game in normal time.
All of the guys that have been ill, including myself, are pretty much right again now. The squad is looking in much better shape than it was only a few days ago – things are getting back to how they should be.
