Former ‘Keeper Signs on With Pompey

Former Exeter City goalkeeper Paul Jones has signed for League 2 Portsmouth. Jones, 27, was released by Crawley Town at the end of the season.

Blues boss Andy Awford said:-

We’re delighted he signed – it’s a great acquisition for us.Paul Jones, Exeter City

I watched him play for Crawley a few times last season and I liked what I saw. There have also been good reports from other people in the game that I trust.

We fought off stiff competition from other clubs to bring him to Pompey and it’s great that he chose us.

Paul Jones played 105 times for Crawley, having joined them on a free transfer from Peterborough United. He’d joined Peterborough from Exeter City initially on loan in January 2011, then signed on fully in the summer of 2011, having helped them to promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.

He’ll also be remembered for being the first keeper to save a penalty at New Wembley for Exeter City, a game which they eventually lost 2-1.
