The Football League have this morning announced who have won the manager of the month for April and the player of the month for April.

Manager of the Month

Having just been awarded a one year rolling contract by his Club, Andy Awford of Portsmouth has been recognised for efforts in steering Portsmouth away from relegation into non-league. 13 points out of 15 was his haul for April.

Football League pundit Don Goodman said:

No one envied Andy when he took on the massive challenge at Portsmouth.

He has not only halted the free-fall but has made the club safe and now they’re a club looking up again. His reward is the permanent manager’s position and the opportunity to make Pompey great again.

The other managers in contention for the award were:  Phil Brown (Southend United), Paul Cook (Chesterfield), and Chris Wilder (Northampton Town).

Player of the Month

This was awarded to Fleetwood Town midfielder Josh Morris. The Blackburn Rovers loanee has helped Fleetwood Town secure a play off place and scoring twice in April. Manager Graham Alexander spoke of the 22-year-old:-

Josh has done great and he is a fantastic lad.

He has got himself acquainted with the group quickly and he has shown his qualities from day one.

He has great ability on the ball, he has great awareness about the game of football and he is a very good young professional footballer.
