Rochdale Boss on Exeter “They’ll come through it”

With Exeter City fans expecting major changes in the line-up Paul Tisdale had other ideas. With 4 defeats in a row and the rochdale_exeter1under 21s performing magnificently on Wednesday in knocking out Premiership Southampton there were plenty of options. However, out went 2 youngsters, Grimes and Jay, and back in came Gow and O’Flynn.

Exeter went in at half time 1-0 down, but got an excellent start to the second half when Gow equalised after 10 seconds. But despite having plenty of attacking options on the field, the Grecians only managed 1 shot on target. 2 more goals by Rochdale meant that Paul Tisdale’s side slumped to another defeat, 5 in a row in all competitions. His recent record is LLLLLDWL, with just 7 goals in that 8 game sequence of which 4 came at Scunthorpe.

Quotes.

Paul Tisdale on the defeat:-

We started the game quite well but they eventually got a hold on the match, as they are entitled to – they are a good side at home.tisdale_red_coat

It’s always a basic change to make, matching the home side man for man, and we did that with the same 4-3-3 formation. Having done that, we had a very good first 15 minutes of the second half, got the goal and at that point I felt it was 50/50.

But then we didn’t get tight enough at a throw-in and Rochdale scored from that.

You wouldn’t be surprised if I said I’m disappointed; I’m always disappointed as I always believe we have a chance in any game. We’re having a tough time – certain things we do aren’t connected, but we were okay today.

We were in the game at the hour-mark, as we were at Peterborough and as we have been in other games recently. I know what we need to do and I know what we can do.

One thing is having things not quite as you want; the next thing is understanding it and knowing what you want to do; the final thing is putting it into practice. We have some work to do – I’m well aware of that.

Rochdale boss Keith Hill had this to say:-

I thought it was a very technical game for League Two and I thought both teams tried to play the right way. It was one of those games where we had to accept that Exeter were going to have a fair amount keith_hill_thumbof possession.

So it was very difficult, there were a lot of wrestles going on, but we did win our fair share, so I do believe we deserved to win.

Their goal just after half-time was a chain of unavoidable events. The play was cleared but the ball ran into the path of one of their players and we were just hoping he misplaced his pass, but he didn’t.

That helped them and hindered us, but we got back on track and it was comfortable in the end.
