Next Up: Wycombe Wanderers at Home in the JPT

With City riding high in League Two following Alan Gow’s virtuoso display against York on Saturday, attention turns towards the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the visit of Wycombe. John O’Flynn limped off early and even if fit wyc_ecfc3would likely not be risked for what is something of a low-key fixture, with Jamie Reid likely to be given a chance to show what he can do from the start. Paul Tisdale may look at some other changes in order to keep his first XI fit for the visit to Dagenham next weekend, meaning the possibility that fringe players like Jimmy Keohane and Tom Nichols could feature.

Wycombe, under the stewardship of the feisty Gareth Ainsworth, have made a middling start to the season and currently lie 12th in the table following a 2-1 win over Southend at the weekend. Ainsworth will have Stuart Lewis available after suspension – one of two red cards the Chairboys have already picked up this season, something which may come as little surprise to those who were at Adams Park on New Years Day to witness a very physical performance. Players to watch include a few who will be returning to the region, for example Jo Kuffour and one-time City trialist Dean Morgan. Paris Cowan-Hall, signed from Plymouth in the summer, limped off a couple of weeks ago and hasn’t featured since.

Tuesday night marks the second time the sides have met in this competition in its various guises. The first ever meeting parkin_bennetbetween the teams was in December 2000, when fourth tier City travelled to 3rd tier Wycombe and pushed them all the way before an 88th minute winner from Niall Thompson secured the win for the hosts, for whom a young Sam Parkin featured and didn’t take too kindly to the jeers from the City faithful that greeted his subsitution, hurling his water bottle as he went down the covered tunnel by the away end! Last season City won both the matches between the sides, the aforementioned battle of Adams Park saw 10-man City win with a late goal credited to John O’Flynn but clearly an OG from Kortney Hause, while back in September it was a cheeky flick from Danny Coles that settled the tie 3-2. Ainsworth and Morgan twice gave Wycombe the lead, cancelled out by davies_thumbgoals from Arron Davies and Jamie Cureton before Coles’ intervention. Overall both sides have won three matches in all competitions, with three draws.

Don’t forget the match is a 7:15 kick off, you only have yourself to blame if you turn up at 7:44 and it’s already 6-4.
