Cureton Caught by Cheltenham Town

Cheltenham Town have announced that Jamie Cureton, aged 37, has signed a deal with them for the coming 2013/14 season.

Exeter City were unable to offer Jamie a contract due to budget cutbacks.

In 3 spells Jamie has played 96 times for Exeter City. He’s also scored 42 goals for the Grecians. Up until Match it did look like his goals would propel the Club to promotion and League 1.

Jamie, talking to the official site has said:-

I’ve loved every minute to be honest. The two seasons I’ve had at the club have been brilliant and I couldn’t have asked for any more from them. I’ve enjoyed being around people that I’ve worked with in terms of the players and the staff, and it’s gone very well personally and as a team.cureton_feat

I understand that the club needs to go a different way and cut budgets and so they’ve not been able to offer me a deal, which is a shame. But I had a really good chat with Paul [Tisdale] and he explained everything to me, so I understood what had to happen.

I’ve not left under a cloud or anything, and I think the fans at Exeter understand the situation and that the opportunity wasn’t there for me to stay.  I’m sure Paul will put together a good team anyway and they’ll be up there battling as well.
Hopefully when I come back I’ll get a good reception – the fans have been brilliant with me at Exeter.
