Grecian Away Hostelry Saved for the Future

Good news for Exeter City fans who prefer to have their pre-match Orient away drink in the Birbeck Tavern in Leytonstone.  The pub was under threat from developers who were keen to buy it after the national chain that owned it, Sarumdale Ltd, went into administration in June. However, a new owner has stepped forward, Barter Inns. The current landlords will stay running it, until new managers are found. The local paper report can be found here.

A well respected pub with good beer, and an excellent garden for those sunny Saturday afternoons. While this pub isn’t the pub that the Exeter Exiles were founded 21 years ago, it is the closest pub, as the actual pub has sadly long been demolished.

No doubt a return visit will be eagerly anticipated prior to a League 1 fixture against Leyton Orient. When though?
