FA Cup: 2012/13: Grecian Gosling Downs Greens

While Exeter City may have predictably exited the FA Cup at Bury yesterday, one Grecian has kept interest in the tournament in place.

Dorchester Town hosted our Devon rivals Plymouth Argyle at the Avenue this afternoon. Just over 3000 fans packed in to the stadium along with the ESPN cameras. Despite torrential rain before kick off, the pitch was deemed playable and the stage was set for an upset. City loanee Jamie Reid was named as substitute, but City and former Argyle trainee Jake Gosling was named in the starting line up at number 7. A former Grecian hero of the City’s 3rd round exit in the FA Cup at Everton in 1999, Jason Matthews, was in goal. Plus Ben Watson, who played for the Grecians in that embarrassing defeat to Curzon Ashton in 2008, started up front.

2 bookings early on for Argyle’s Conor Hourihane, the 2nd being rather harsh, equalled up things on the pitch. So, game on!

Dorchester Town made a good account of themselves. Fully deserving the half time score of 0-0.

The 2nd half started well for the Magpies. On 49 minutes Dorchester took the lead, through none other than Jake Gosling. Jake found the net from near the penalty spot from a Jake Smeeton cross.

Dorchester Town took control of the game, and look comfortable in their win. The first ever for the Club over league opponents.

Luton or Nuneaton await in the 2nd round.

In other Grecian loanee Cup news, Jordan Tilson’s game for Gloucester City at Whaddon Road against Leyton Orient this afternoon was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
