Next Up: A Friendly Visit to Yeovil Town

Saturday (11th August) see the Grecians travelling up the A30/A303 to Huish Park for a pre-season friendly. This will be City’s last friendly before the season starts with a League Cup game against Crystal Palace.

Yeovil Town are a former club of the late Adam Stansfield, so no doubt the anniversary of his passing will be marked at this match. Adam played 52 league games for Yeovil, including 26 as substitute. He’ll always be remembered for his goal at Villa Park in the FA Trophy Final that helped Yeovil to a 2-0 win over Stevenage.

Given the the closeness of Yeovil to Exeter, it’s surprising how few times they have played competitively. The Glovers have a strong history of giant-killing in the FA Cup, and so it was in 1934 when at Huish Park (the previous ground) they thrashed Exeter City 4-1 in the second round.

Our paths went in opposite directions, as we were relegated to the Conference The Glovers were promoted for their first taste of league football. Our paths then crossed again in 2009, and in the next 3 seasons we managed to play each other 8 times, including 1 game in the League Cup and 1 in the JPT. Results show that honours are even in the League, W2, D2, L2, F10, A10. With City winning both the 2 recent cup games. Logan scoring against Yeovil n the 2010 league game here. And a free kick special from Ryan Harley that deceived the cameraman as well!

There will be signs to the car park for away fans, which is situated behind the away end. Even though this is a friendly with a lower than usual attendance allow plenty of time to get away from Yeovil after the game. The 2 stations, Yeovil Pen Mill and Yeovil Junction are both some distance from the ground.
