Red Army Christmas Party

On Sunday 18th December the Red Army held a Christmas Party at St James's Park which proved to be a huge success. We had a fantastic turnout with around 100 people in attendance.

Food was enjoyed by all and there was a great selection! The party games proved even more popular with almost all children joining in with the balloon game and musical statues and prizes being awarded to everyone for taking part.

We also had a visit from Father Christmas who handed over the Christmas cards and presents to the children, with the help of our much loved Grecian the Lion and we also had guest appearances from two of our favourite Exeter City players Richard Logan and Steve Tully who were more than happy to sign autographs and speak with adults and children.

The disco was great with children getting up to dance and a big thank you to Joe Hellier for helping with that.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the feedback given on the night was very positive.

Another big thank you given on the night was to Andy Beer. Andy voluntarily updates our website in his own time, free of charge. Without Andy the website would not look as good as it does now and would certainly not be as up to date as it is (I wonder if he has noticed he is uploading to the website an update all about him!) A lot of time is put into doing this and so we rewarded Andy with a little drink to be enjoyed over Christmas.

Finally, Exeter City Football Club allows Red Army free use of the rooms at the club and its facilities and so we must remember to extend our appreciation to them for their continued support.

We hope you all have a wonderful, happy, safe and warm Christmas and New Year and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2012 for more action packed fun with Red Army!

Red Army magazine competition winner

We are pleased to announce the winner of the competition from the latest edition of the Red Army Grecian was Jamie Mallett.

The compeition required members to write a short story or poem about anything ECFC related. Jamie wrote a fantastic poem about our super striker Richard Logan. Here is the winning poem:

On the pitch, the best team in Devon.
Then I hear his name, in the starting eleven.
The game kicks off and we're ten minutes in.
And when the ball is kicked up, he heads to O'flynn.
He doesn't stop running and gets in the box.
He doesn't care if he gets mud on his socks.
The ball's out to Tully, who gets in a cross.
It's aimed at Logie, which isn't a loss.
He smashes the ball in, the fans start to cheer.
He is our striker that all defenders fear.
My favourite player's song, the fans start to sing.
He is our number 20, he is our king.
He is................ RICHARD LOGAN.

Red Army parade and Children in Need bucket collection

On the 26th November around 20 Red Army members took to the pitch pre match to join in with a Red Army parade. Children wore the Red Army T-shirts and carried the Red Army banner. A fantastic response was received from the fans in the stands around the ground and the members on the pitch were applauded as they made their way around.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the word of Red Army has almost certainly been relayed.

At half time a bucket collection took part in aid of Children in Need. Again all the members taking part had fun and we are pleased to annouce that a massive sum of 276.53 was collected.

We would like to say a big thank you to all members who took part with these two events and well done with your help in raising this money for a worthy cause.

We hope to hold another parade later in the season and we shall notify members of the details once a date has been set.

Some of the pictures taken of the parade can be viewed in the
gallery.

Red Army Vue cinema morning

On the 28th October Vue cinema kindly held the second Red Army cinema morning.

Around 50 members and parents descended upon Vue at 8:30am in the morning for what proved to be another successful event.

Another current film (Johnny English) was shown, which was a hit with all the children and adults that attended.

Popcorn and drinks were enjoyed by all and great feedback was received about a wonderful event which cost very little to attend.

It was agreed that we would try and arrange our third cinema morning for either the February or April half term next year.

Many thanks to all those who attended and made this popular event very enjoyable.

Red Army Halloween bingo

During the October half term we held our usual bingo event, with a little twist. As it was so close to Halloween, we decorated the Grecian Centre and invited everyone to attend in their Halloween attire. We were very pleased to see the amount of people who did come along dressed up and we were all very impressed by one parent who made a great effort!

There where Red Army prizes for the bingo and a wide selection of Exeter City and Halloween goodies for the raffle (although the raffle did drag on due to the number of prizes up for grabs - I think everyone in the room won at least once!!)

We had a lovely turnout of players with attedances from Chris Shepherd, Elliot Frear, Callum McNish, Jimmy Keohane, Scot Bennett and Jack Furzer.

We also had special guest, Paul Tisdale pop in towards the end of the night and entertained us all with his unique bingo calling style and quiz on player numbers. We were very impressed with how well he did and will certainly be asking Tis back to do some more bingo calling in the future for Red Army!

A very good night was had by all those that attended and many thanks goes to all the players who took time out to come along, as well as Paul Tisdale for making a guest appearance.

Check out all the photos taken on the night in the gallery section to see if you can spot yourself or just to have a look at the great night we had.

We hope to see even more of you at the next bingo event in the New Year.

Penalty Shoot Out?

There is a possibility that another opening for a penalty shoot out will be available shortly, but this depends on demand.

We need around 14 members to take part for each penalty shoot out. The dates available are as follows:
• Sat 1st October v Oldham
• Sat 17th December v Scunthorpe

If you would like to take part, please drop us an email confirming this and what dates you are available.

Entry to the game will be free and you will be required to sit in the Flybe stand with the rest of the members taking part.

If you have not yet renewed, but would like to take part, please do let us know and you will need to make sure you have sent your renewal form to us prior to the event.

Player Sponsorship

Red Army are pleased to announce that this coming season we will be sponsoring Scot Bennett's home kit. Scot is one of our Red Army presidents this year and so we were very keen to offer our sponsorship in return for his help with Red Army.

In addition to this, to show our continuing support and loyalty we will be sponsoring Adam Stansfield's training kit. It was felt in light of the one year anniversary of his death that it would be too soon to withdraw Red Army sponsorship and so the committee agreed to continue sponsorship for the time being.

We would like to wish Scot the best of luck for this season and we hope that you agree with us that the two sponsorships are worthy selections.

On Saturday 30th July Exeter City played their only pre season friendly home game against Derby County.

A special offer set by the club saw all Red Army members obtain free entry to the game.

In addition to this, Red Army held it's first ever penalty shoot out with Football In the Community. 29 members split into two groups, took to the pitch at half time in the new Red Army t-shirts and took shots at goal. All members had at least 2 shots and it was an action packed 10 minutes of non-stop penalties. As it was all Red Army members who took part, it was more for fun than it was a competition, however it was noted that team 2 scored more goals! The two goalkeepers were fantastic and there were some excellent saves as well as goals scored.

Red Army would like to thank Football In The Community for organising this event for us and also to all the members who took part and made our first half time penalty shoot out a huge success. Everyone appeared to have fun and it is certainly something we feel should be held again later in the season.

The Red Army train with the team day 2011, we feel, was a huge success!

We were even lucky with the weather as the sky was blue and the sun was beaming down on us!

The day started with all the members training with the team and Grecian the Lion. We feel this was hugely enjoyed by all. Children were split into groups and rotated on a course set with different skills, such as an area for penalty shoot outs, mini matches, dribbling balls around cones etc.

We think the players enjoyed this as much as the children as at one point someone had forgotten to keep an eye on the time so that the groups could swap after 10 minutes! Red Army would like to thank Rob Edwards for his fantastic organisation of the training and to the rest of the players who all got stuck in and made the experience a very enjoyable and memorable one for the members. We have had wonderful feedback that the training this year was much better than in previous years.

After the training had ended, we fired up the BBQ and hot dogs and burgers were enjoyed by many. Cakes, sweets and drinks were also on sale and everyone seemed to enjoy relaxing in the sunshine.

There were also several stalls with raffle tickets being sold, a lucky dip, guess the name of the dog competition and guess how many sweets in the jar competition, which was won by a proud Red Army member who guessed quite a number of times and luckily won! The raffle was a big success with many prizes to be won and all the members enjoyed taking part in the competitions.

The Lucky Charm mascot draw took place and the Player of the Year award was announced as having gone to Jamie Cureton. His trophy has been sent on to him.

After the players had finished training, autographs were signed and photos taken.

We would like to thank all the members who attended the day. We hope you will all agree with us that this years event has been very good and thanks is extended to all Red Army members for their hard work in organising this.

Lets look to making next years event even better!

The Red Army was delighted to hand over a cheque for £250 to the Adam Stansfield Foundation during half time at last season's match against Yeovil at St. James Park.
