So what's going on here? We've already had several defeats this season; are this years U18's not as good as we've become accustomed to over the last few years?

The main thing is their development, not the results week on week, although of course it's nicer to win than to lose. Three matches ago we beat Bournemouth away. However, it is possible that sooner or later we might have a couple of barren years regarding producing players of League quality : the academy has already done really well so can't expect them to produce the goods every time. Development is a funny old game. Look at Storey : suddenly came from nowhere to being a very good centre back at Div 2 level.

Possibly the result of moving some real youngsters up into the squad this year, who may take a time to adjust, but who hopefully will stand us in good stead going forwards ?

I take the point of both Indo & Colesman Ballz; it's better to be producing a few players of the class of Ollie, Ethan, Jordan Storey et al, rather than winning every game & I guess with a smaller first team squad this year the likes of Archie Collins & Jack Sparkes are more involved with the 1st team than the U18's.
So long as the Academy is continuing to develop these boys, I guess we've got little to worry about.

If you look at Post no.17 on this thread, the sponsorship page lists the various squad members. Cross checking with the Bournemouth match report you will find that all 5 substitutes plus one starter (Jay Stansfield) are from the U16 group.

Report of City's U18s 2-1 defeat to Swindon on Saturday https://www.exetercityfc.co.uk/news/2018/september/exeter-city-v-swindon-town/

I understand that the U18s were in action this afternoon against Swindon in the Youth Alliance Cup, but haven't seen a result for the game.

The U18s take on Swindon this afternoon at the C&F in a re-arranged Youth Alliance Cup game.

On Saturday the U18s beat FGR 2-1.
