The names mentioned in the OP all came through the ranks whilst we were a conference side. If we were still in the BSP im certain that the likes of Bennett, Frear, Shephard & Nicholls would have had, or would be having, plenty of game time. The issue now is that to get a young player through the ranks that is ready to step in at League One level means that they have to be exceptional. Im not sure any of the current crop are, and need some game time at a lower level in order for the club to develop them further at a higher level.

I feel Tis should give Chris Shephard more of a chance.

Are you typing in a New York accent, Ali?
No, but you are using correct principles in your thinking. Would you like another go ?

In terms of Tisdale bringing trhough the youth, then surely his influence can only be felt a decade after his arrival at the earliest?

Has anyone done an analysis of what other teams have brought through and sold on compared to ourselves?

The youth should get a chance.
With the current crop of players we will be relegated. Chuck in the likes of Frear, Bennett, Nichols for a couple of games, see what they can do as they can't do much worse than the untouchables are at the moment. Give them a couple of games to stake a claim.
It will give the more senior players an incentive to improve performances and it'll give tis a stronger squad for next season in league 2 as all the younger players will have a bit of league 1 experience if called upon.

I am also disappointed that none of our youth players look, at the moment, as though they are going to make much of themselves. I genuinely feel that this is the greatest worry about our progress as "a community club". We could go down, it wouldn't shake my faith or support for City, but I'd like to think we had the foundations to rebuild. Are there no good young players in the westcountry, are we missing them, choosing the wrong ones or are we just not bringing them up to the required level?

Even Sercombe hasn't progressed as he should have.

Why? (Genuine question>)

Simple really. If the senior players can't be coached and trained correctly (most are going backwards in terms of development) then how are the youth players supposed to learn.

We don't have the finances to compete but we seem to have neglected the idea of bringing through talent and selling it on.
