Cricketers bathing without helmets facing medium/fast bowlers.

#Brian Close against the West Indies pace attack in 1976 & he had a couple(allowed then)of bouncers a over at him !

I think bathing rather than batting would have been safer. :)

Some of that bowling was intimidatory and the umpires were far too slow to intervene. Brian Close aged 45 and John Edrich aged 39 were very lucky to escape serious injury that evening in the 3rd test in Manchester on a shocking pitch.

Ha...I bet they both had a long soak after that session..

I seem to recall a picture of Brian Close with his shirt off after that innings, battered & bruised.A real tough character.

Yes,that was the photo I remember at the time.

That West Indies pace attack was awesome, loved those Test Cricket days.Thommo & Lilley at full tilt for the Aussies..Richie Benaud & Jim Laker in the BBC commentary box...Skys coverage is fantastic, but give me back those days..

The trouble was that our batters were so often on the receiving end. Agree wholeheartedly about Richie Benaud. The best commentator of them all.
