I know I'm running a risk of ridicule and urine extraction regarding this topic, but here goes anyway...
Last season, I inquired of the club about a feasability study at the very least regarding that farcical stand that the whole world gets to look at via TV highlights etc, and what it would entail exactly switching the cameras to the other side in order to solve the problem - because it most definitely is a problem. Unfortunately I didnt get wheels in motion in time for such a study to be considered, so it died a death last year. I still feel strongly about it, and would like to get something off the ground this close season.
I dont want to be told we have better things to spend our money on, when nobody officially knows how much moving the cameras would cost. In my opinion the image of the club on a nationwide or even a global basis is paramount. Therefore having a stand that only goes just past the halfway line, and which is sparsley populated on a good day looks awful as a backdrop to a Football League match. I know its a beautifully appointed stand etc. but IMHO it just looks awful, with the bedsit land panorama for all to see to the right.
We played no end of teams in the past couple of seasons where their cameras are sited to reflect the best view of their ground, and are the opposite side from the commentary team. I think doing something like that has to be considered to reflect the best of St James Park, which would include a view of the dug-outs and the players tunnel. To me it makes total sense; not doing it is a no-brainer.
I should point out that two members within the club considered that moving the cameras would be a good idea, but seeing the ridicule I came in for, they didnt mention it again! What is the general (polite) consensus please?
