There was a low wall around the pitch at Turf Moor, painted white, and I remember seeing Steve Kindon plough headfirst into it. The crowd gave one of those audible shudders and they carried him off but remarkably he returned for the second half wearing a rugby scrum cap !

Joe Cooke bursting through the Millwall defence in September 1981..A larger crowd than the norm at SJP for this game(6,700.Average was around 3,500 at the time)due to vouchers for the upcoming game against Liverpool in the League Cup.
The Grecians won 5-4(5-1 up at one stage)39A24A48-1524-4113-8BB2-44CBE4DA828E.jpeg

Shap shot from October 1988.Not great for the Grecians,I remember the 0-4 at Orient in midweek !
Interesting to see how poor the attendances were compared to today.View attachment 1571
Thanks Olds.
Great to see some old names there.
Ian Holloway scoring for Rovers.
Was that Alan Brazil scoring a hat-trick for Preston? Rush and Beardsley.
You're right, the attendances were low. Man City 22k. Chelsea 15k ..++
I'm confused about one of Crewe's goals : "Banks o.g.".

The Grecians have only played Stoke City in 3 seasons in the FL (1990-93)
This was the last occasion & the only time a result was gained at The Victoria Ground.
