Turning 40 in January I wanted to get back to a hobby I was doing in my youth, now my ebay basically ticks over I wanted to do something in my spare time.
I had a model train set where I built a track, some trains and a few buildings.. Then whilst on holiday I bought a kit and build a plane, now I'm proper hooked!!

Anyone else still doing this hobby?
I find it very therapeutic and ive grown new patience trying to get a good finish and look to my models..

My latest project below.

If i had to agree with you we would both be wrong
Mate if you've got yourself a turntable for painting then you are too far gone ! Use to love building models until I came up against HMS Amethyst which is about 3 1/2 long and is taking ages to get going every time !

I do this from time to time and you're right it's very theraputic, At the moment i have a USS Enterprise (Original Series) to do and a Mark 2 Ford Transit with British Gas decals. Had them a while now as they were gifts from family, Also bought a Airbrush set which i haven't been brave enough to try yet. Hoping to move soon so want to look for a place with either a decent size shed or out building so i can turn it into a hobby room but that is some way off

That turntable was 8 quid on amazon :):):)

I found a strong large box and reglued the flaps and taped up the edges to spray into

I was on eBay and saw a badger BA1100 compressor and put a cheeky bid of 70 quid and won it for £64 lol.. just waiting for an gravity feed air brush to come this week and I’ll be trying that out on the plane.

I also picked up a air filtration unit off Facebook for 40 quid (when I looked online they were mega bucks so got it for a bargain) which I hope to create a proper spray booth in the conservatory

I’m very surprised how the modern day models are well produced..

Also gone are the days of scraping poly cement from the model as that tube was full of the thickest of glues

I used thin cement glue from Tamiya and impressed with the ease of use using capillary action to spread the glue in joints

Tamiya products in my view are one of the best around, Their models are pretty detailed and the components snap off their frames with ease with just a bit of help with a sharp blade, Their accessories are good too. One thing that is a vast improvment since i was a child is the glue, Using a liquid instead of cement type from a tube is brilliant, Gone are the days when a great blob of glue would always seem to ruin any glass part of a build, Now you just brush the correct amount on

I only use their glue as the model cellar ( unfortunately closing end of September sadly after all these years!!) only stocked that, I do like Humbrol paints over Revell so stuck with them as im trying to build up my collection, I do use revell putty as it drys quicker and feels easier to sand to a smooth finish better than the Humbrol.

A guy in Wiltshire that I've been messaging suggests using PVA glue to stick glass parts on which I'm gonna try on this spitfire I'm building.

Use to be a guy in Exeter who would sell off all the old models real cheap at times and also ERTL had a unit on Marsh Barton years ago who would also sell off kits that had a few bits missing from them and had been returned especially the Renault Tyrell Elf race cars which gave you 3 pairs of slicks.
