New Year's Eve

Just awful.

I'll leave it to Mark Kermode to sum up : "like something you would sick up after having eaten all the nasty consumerist porn of Christmas, this is like the vomit furball at the end of it".

Who would live in a house like this?
Love and Death. Woody Allen, crucially when he was funny. 80 minutes, so he doesn't overdo it, well maybe by about 20 minutes.

Dear oh dear.

Unfeasible story about fossilised wannabe astronauts Clint Eastwood, James Garner, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland being sent into space to save the world.

War Horse. 8/10. Loved it bar a few minor irritations ("Devon" accents being one). Cried lots. Great one for the big screen.

Of course it's unfeasible, it wasn't supposed to be an Oscar winning piece of serious cinema.

Against my good ladies better judgement we tonight rented Final Destination 5 and we were both pleasantly surprised, even though all 5 films have almost been exactly the same as one another this one IS the final one and has a genuinely coherent feel to it.Anyway beats watching the crap on the tele on a saturday night 7/10.

Black Swan - now this is a film you're either going to love or hate. /QUOTE]

" Shame "

And so, I suspect, is this. Though, having said that, I neither loved nor hated it but was certainly mightily impressed by the acting and filming. It is about a man who is obsessed by sex, can' t stop thinking about it or doing it, but who is completely unhappy and empty at the same time.

I also think it has similarities to Black Swan. A lot of people didn't like that because of the lack of background to the characters' pasts. The same is true in Shame and the direction is similarly high-impact with main characters who are very troubled emotionally. I loved both films; Shame is highly original in terms of subject matter and intensely involving for the viewer, although I feel, like you say, that many will hate it.

True, but films can be unfeasible but enjoyable. IMHO Space Cowboys isn't!

Watched 'Escape to victory' last night. Unfeasible but enjoyable (!), Germany v the WW2 prisoner of war rest of the world team at football.
I'm sure I've seen the ref a few times at our games. I wonder if Russel Osman knew back then he would become lucky enough to grace the coaching staff at SJP? And next time England are in a penalty shootout against Germany we need Sly Stallone in goal!

Cowboys and Aliens. James Bond is the hero amongst plenty of big names in this wild west romp. Starts off slow, but builds well to the alien attack and the rootin' tootin' shootin' good ol' boys mission to get back their captured townsfolk from the aliens' base.

As daft as it sounds, and as good fun as it sounds, and pretty kid friendly too, other than being perhaps a little more graphic and violent than I would have expected. But whatever, yee-haw and dosey-doe your partners and saddle up for a rip roaring adventure across the plains. Howdy pardner! 8/10
