The Iron Lady.

Even though it was very good casting, Parkinson, Howe, Foot etc very good and Meryl Streep did the best passable impression since Janet Brown, I think all this talk of oscars is way overboard, a weak film in many ways.

Making a film about dementia, and the subject still alive, just left me cold. Tried to mix it up with a sort of half-arsed biopic, and the whole thing suffered as a result. Lots missed out, and chronologically wrong. eg showing clips of the miners strike for the '81 riots.

Love her, or loathe her, Mrs T deserved better.

6/10

Happy Feet

Missed this one first time around, but my girlfriend is a big fan and I'm a big fan of penguins so it made sense to watch it together on a rare afternoon in.

If you need a synopsis it is that apparently all emperor penguins are born with song in them, which is what they use to attract a mate. Our young hero, Mumble, as you can guess from the name is born without the ability to sing due to being dropped as an egg. He can however tapdance, which gets him into all sorts of crazy misadventures.

Enjoyed it very much for a kids film. It doesn't tread the same ground as the likes of Toy Story, Despicable Me, Megamind, Up etc. in being all appealing to adults. It was a bit of harmless fun on a quiet Saturday afternoon.

I'm glad I didn't see it the first time it came out, as I feel it would have paled in comparison to the extraordinary March of the Penguins, which I think came out around the same time.

Anyway I give it a solid 7/10. Nothing groundbreaking, but I'd take it over all the pixar stuff.

44 Inch Chest.

Ray Winstone, playing the same kind of character that he always does, goes for revenge on the fella that his missus has been knocking off but then has a bit of a moral dilemma.

It's crap, 3/10, and that's only because Ian McShane is in it and i like him, me.

Who would live in a house like this?
In a Better World. Danish Oscar shot, although they had the good grace to speak some English, so quite restrained on the reading. Good film about how effective revenge is and isn't. Full of moral dilemmas. Which is nice.

Watched 'Escape to victory' last night. Unfeasible but enjoyable (!), Germany v the WW2 prisoner of war rest of the world team at football.
I'm sure I've seen the ref a few times at our games. I wonder if Russel Osman knew back then he would become lucky enough to grace the coaching staff at SJP? And next time England are in a penalty shootout against Germany we need Sly Stallone in goal!
Whilst i appreciate that it's no Citizen Kane, i have issues with this film.

Aside from the fact that Michael Caine is one of the worst actors of all time, when they're about to escape through the bottom of the bath at half time, there he is, front of the queue, trying to get everyone to follow him. But wait, 'we can do this' says someone or other. All of a sudden, Caine, who had no intention of going out for the second half, completely changes his mind in a split second and is making out that it was his idea that they may actually be able to 'do it' and anyone thinking about going down the tunnel is an arse.
