Excellent result. One of those "would have taken a point before kick-off" fixtures.

Always play the game instead.

This team is steely, like the manager, well played City and Matt Taylor, great stuff.
Very true Elgy. We keep grinding out these tight 1-0 wins. Only 38 goals scored from 27 games but the value of those clean sheets is massive. (y)

Martin clears off the line, but I think he read the situation well. Maxted makes an excellent save from a long shot.
Wasn't there but was it an 'ugly' 1-0? BBC stats say 59% possession Grimsby or did we invite them on and smash them on the counter? Noticed Randall assisted Nicky Law's winner, Is that the 10th one nil this season? I think we're going up! UTC!

Three wins and three clean sheets in a row. If we're honest we've not been at our best for large parts of all 3 of those games but it can't be luck that we keep finding a way to grind out these wins. The formula of making it is as difficult as possible for the opposition to score and trusting that our skilful players will have the extra bit of quality at the other end seems to be working.

Grimsby started the second half well but we did a really good job of neutralising Whitehouse who was their key creative player in the first half. We gradually got a bit more territory but for 65 minutes could barely string a pass together. However, it just needed one nice interchange of passes between Law and Williams, helped by a decoy run from Randall, and we were able to get the goal. After that we played some lovely football with Nicky Law in complete control and it was just a shame that Joel Randall couldn't finish off a golden chance to score a second and we relied on a decent save from Maxted to make sure we got the win. Despite his miss Joel Randall again looked the part when he came on for half an hour; he seems to be able to find space and very rarely gives the ball away.

No doubt the old duffer will be along shortly to regale us with his thoughts on the game. :)

Brilliant win in a tricky fixture.

Jonny Maxted, Aaron Martin and Tom Parkes.

The holy trinity!
