Loosing 2-0 eh??

Warren Mitchell (RIP) doing the warm up....

Spent bleddy hours on the bus getting home. Missed the Big Match highlights.
Missed fkcu all on the highlights..Someone I knew got back to Exeter & managed to see the highlights,he thought he was at a different game ! None of the Exeter chances were shown,he wrote to LWT to complain & received a letter of apology, plus Brian Moore read his complaint out on the next Big Match.apologising.The reason given was a trainee film editor had done the edit..

The closest the Grecians got to the original Wembley in 1993...Drew 1-1 at SJP(6,800)after losing the area final 1st leg,2-1 at Vale Park..A really disappointing night.

Ray Ellis who was club secretary at the time, recounted the build up after the Newcastle replay at a meeting a few months ago.
I had forgotten(until he mentioned it)that the only way you could get a ticket at the time was buying one & going on the official transport, that way more money could be made by the football club.WHL had a restricted capacity of 40,000 rather than 50,000 because a new stand was being built.
The logistics were daunting,105 coaches were required(a record turning up at WHL) & a couple of trains were hired.
Fans queued through the night to get a ticket for the game & transport.
I was pictured in the Express and Error waiting to board one of the coaches

Is this the game where Bally got slightly annoyed at the final whistle ?

That happened at the league fixture a few weeks later...One of the few occasions the Grecians got a mention on News at Ten for non football reasons..

Of course yes I remember now though had forgotten quite what a melee it was at the end - I also remember being there for Danny Baileys strike in the other game at Vale Park

Yes,remember it well...Shame that we shipped one in near the end of that game..Port Vale were a good side, pretty much matched them at Vale Park that night, especially after Andy Cook concededa penalty after about 5mins & was lucky not to be red carded for a professional foul..

The club were in serious 5hit after that..Iirc a £10k fine & the threat of further sanctions if there was any further pitch invasions..A couple of fans were arrested for the attack on the Linesman as well...

The club only has to worry about inappropriate chants at keepers these days !!
