It’s an interesting game , so many different variations and combinations.I suppose chess is a bit like football Mike , control the midfield and don’t attack until you have enough pieces up!
But don't the Grand Masters sort out their defense first, Banksy?

I was always told to make sure as many pieces as possible were developed early and defended.

I bloody LOVE Trivial Pursuit, me. Also very much enjoy quite a few others (never really got it with Risk, if I'm honest).

Honourable mention to something that isn't a board game as such, but Test Match (lazy comparisons with Subbuteo I guess!) was good fun.

Was/Is cribbage a board game or a card game? The latter, right? My old man used to like that game.

Cards.

Us Exiles love a bit of nomination whist on the train to matches.

Of course - the board is just for scoring. Silly me.
Haven't played whist for a loooong time. Can't remember how to play it.
