One of countless odd goal defeats that season. IIRC, York were the only team to beat us by more than a goal.

This was John Evans, who was in the high-scoring Carlisle team in 1963-64. I think I read once that he scored 16 times for them that season in only 15 games.

I saw us beat Barnsley 2-0 in the league at SJP sometime in the late 60s. I think JE would have been in that Barnsley team.

The last visit by The Grecians to Leeds Rd.
A decent record at that ground since the first visit in 1975/76 when Huddersfield dropped into the 4th Division for the first time.
Won 3 Drew 4 Lost 2 at the old ground.
Classic 1930s & had not changed much since that decade.

That was a half decent squad in 86/87 with a good balance of younger and experienced players...the likes of Robson, O’Connell, Batty, Marker all had something about them....to finish only 14th that season especially after the start we had was bit of a downer.....although looking back at the squad there was probably not quite enough experience in it rather than a lack of quality which most of the young players definitely had!

Yes...Too many drawn games that season.23.
From memory I don’t think a goal was conceded at SJP until November.

The wheels definitely fell off after the defeat at Deepdale in November.....I believe if our young player development program had been around back then like it is today more of those players would have gone on and played at higher levels.
