With Root's dismissal leaving England on 85-4 at lunch, it is difficult to see them surviving until tea let alone the end of play.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Lyon's get 5 wickets.
Whereupon he gets Root..

136-9 and it's not even 3 o'clock yet. Another abysmal batting collapse. Root needs to be stripped of the captaincy, and the whole team drastically overhauled.

Lyon showed Moeen how it's supposed to be done.

Sad but the better team won.

Denley and Moeen need to be replaced. I'd also prefer Curran to Bairstow. We also really need a batsman who has a great defense and can hold up one end.

Test cricket is such a different mentality - I dont see how you can expect players to jump from ODIs and T20 one week into test format the next.

We should either field a completely test focused squad or give the players enough time (6 months at minimum) of dedicated test practice to get their brains into the test mentality. I don't believe its about the players natural skill, it's more about mentality and psychological preparation.

Too much one day cricket has ruined the proper Cricket of Test Matches - We were never at the races - The Only one of that line who could possibly bat all day is Root the others are chiefly one day players.
Alistair Cook anyone ?
