Lack of creativity and goals.

Since the draw at Port Vale we haven't been creating many chances, the football has been poor and the approach has been long ball. Resulting in a lack of goals and chances for our strikes and the ball consistently coming back at us.

In our first 11 games we saw our full backs linking up and overlaping our wingers and getting crosses in the box for Stockley. Recently they've been pegged back and we haven't shown the bravery to get our full backs forward and supporting our wingers who equally haven't looked interested in tracking back. Without Boateng our central midfield looks clueless without any energy or skill.

Do you think a change in formation might be the solution or is it just that our back ups outside the starting 11 just aren't good enough? Has the team lost its focus and needs to return to doing the basics propperly? Passing to a teammate, no silly bookings or giving away pointless freekicks.

Boateng appears to be the key. Without him Law can't seem operate effectively in the side. Think I saw somewhere that Boateng is also our highest 'assist' man with 4.

Mark Cooper was pretty damning in his post match interview last week. Said we only have one threat, which is balls in to the box. Stop that and you stop us from scoring. Appears he was right. And I'm sure every other manager knows it too.

Law's form started dipping before Boateng got injured, he was poor at Yeovil and not great at Grimsby.

As scottus86 says our full backs have stopped bombing forward, both Sweeney and Moxey are decent when they go forward, defending is probably the weaker part of their game, at the start of the season Sweeney was creating chance after chance via his quality crosses, Moxey has been poor this season however in the games he has played well (when playing as a full back) he has gone forward. Moxey bombing forward also created space for Law, he isn't getting that space now.

following through
We seem to have loads of defenders so we should be able to play 3-5-2 but we are a bit lacking down the left hand side.

Even with everyone fit we are short in quality up front.

Given our injuries today something like below may have suited us better.

Hamon

Oates Martin Croll

Sweeney Moxey (wing backs)

Tillson

Taylor Law

Jay

Stockley

We need to get back to getting lots of balls into the box for Stockley, he's stopped scoring because we aren't getting balls into the danger zone.

Agree in part but I still think you only have to go back to the second half against Cheltenham for what needs to be done....Taylor wide right in front of Sweeney, then put Law in the middle and hope Holmes is fit enough to replace the awful Lee Martin and Forte for the hard working but ineffective Matt Jay.

We've now got two games coming up to sort out team selection, formation and tactics. Blackpool in the FA Cup and Bristol Rovers in the Checkatrade Trophy. Hopefully Matt will try out some changes ready for Northampton at home in a fortnight.

I would like to see

——————-Hamon——————
Sweeny—Martin—Croll—Moxey
——Collins—-Tilson—Law———
Martin——————————Taylor
—————-Stockley——————-

Something a bit more solid. Holmes in there instead of Martin injuries permitting. Three in midfield so that the fullbacks can get forward and not be so exposed.

A rapidly improving Northampton, November could be a very hard month.

Loving the free flowing entertaining football at S
We’re massinley reliant on Stockley , Forte when available is going to make a big difference....I still think we’re a striker short though
