It's good to see that Cornwall's second city is getting the recognition it deserves by reaching the final 6 of this year's Carbuncle Cup - a competition run by the magazine Building Design for (and I quote) "least favourite new building of the last 12 months".

BECKLEY POINT, a 23 storey, 78 metre high student housing block is described thus:
Disturbingly similar to the Las Vegas hotel New York New York, a fun size caricature of new York skyscrapers stacked side by side. The difference is Beckley Point is no joke. The building is bad enough but worst of all is the impact on Plymouth's townscape. It is located on one of the highest points in the city and ensures that the soulless incoherence that characterises much of Plymouth's postwar reconstruction has been recycled for another generation.

Jannerland does have a history in this competition though - apparently Drake Circus Shopping Centre is a previous winner. :D
