    Albums of the year

Not been a classic year for new music but my top three would be

    Tusks - Dissolve
    Myrkur - Mareidt
Public Service Broadcasting - Every Valley

My top two would be Kamasi Washington and This Is The Kit, as those are the only two new albums I bought this year.

Can I have Budos Band's Burnt Offerings as third place, as I only heard it this year?

Will check out your selections later, Steve.

I think this night just have snuck into my number three position. Obvious comparisons to Warpaint and the XX, but also getting shades of Cocteau Twins, Pooka, The God Machine and Autolux too. Good stuff.

    Re: Albums of the year

I only bought a couple of new ones this year (not yet got the new Peter Matthew Bauer one as it appears to only be available to download, I want it on CD!).

The albums by The Districts and John Murry were *very* disappointing (especially the former, whose previous album was magnificent), but Manchester Orchestra's "A Black Mile to the Surface" was something else entirely. Absolutely wonderful. The way tracks 5-7 ("The Alien", "The Sunshine", "The Grocery") segue into each other is divine.

My only "new" album in 2017 was Wolf Alice's second release, Visions of a Life. Seeing them next Friday, can't wait.

I didn't bother with it in the end - disliked the single(s) intensely and my BiL (who got me onto them in the first place) said the rest of the album was a dirge. Loved their first album.
