No wickets for an hour. Time running out.

Well it was always going to be a tough ask with Smith still playing the immovable object role. Onwards and.....wherever.

Drop in pitches don't seem to work very well.

    They do for good batsmen.

Yes, but they stay the same for 5 days. Still good for batsmen. Bowlers need help as well.

Had we been batting today and yesterday I imagine we would have rolled over.

Not if Cook was in and got a bit of support.

Although the pitch was batsman friendly right through we might have had a sniff if we had some genuine pace and a quality spinner in our attack. It was all rather toothless after we got them to what was effectively 14-4 this morning.

Cook's got one score of note, I wouldn't have put my house on him batting for ages again, in the first innings only Root (of the batsmen) got any worthwile runs along with the mammoth knock from Cook.

With regards to our bowlers, we are told they aren't suited to hard, bouncy wickets, this one was slow and low, Australia scored nearly 600 runs for the loss of 14 wickets, the wickets they are suited to seem few and far between away from England, is this good enough ??

If we had been batting for a day against Starc (not playing I know), Hazlewood, Cummins and Lyon I believe they would have bowled us out.

The reality is this current England team isn't very good.

    It's worth noting we are 3 - 0 down to what I'd consider to be a 6 / 10 Australian team.

I've been watching Ashes cricket for 25 years, I'd say their batting line up is the worst I've seen.
